Cllr William Powell
About William
William has been an active Liberal Democrat politician in Wales for almost two decades. He is a qualified secondary school teacher and taught Modern Languages in state and independent schools for over 17 years. He has served as County Councillor for Talgarth since 2004 and was a member of the Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons National Park Authority from 2004 - 2011 and was reappointed to the Authority in 2022, where he now chairs the Audit and Risk Committee.
In 2017, William was appointed by Powys County Council to represent the Welsh Liberal Democrats on Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Panel, where he was joined in 2022 by Ceredigion CC Liberal Democrat Group leader, Cllr Elizabeth Evans.
William was the first Welsh Liberal Democrat Senedd Member for Mid and West Wales from 2011 - 2016 and served as President of the Welsh Liberal Democrats from 2017 - 2020. With years of experience under his belt, he remains committed to supporting the Welsh Liberal Democrats, collaborating with members all over Wales to guarantee the health and autonomy of the Welsh party, rooted in longstanding Welsh Liberal values.
In addition to his political work, William has been involved in numerous community organizations and initiatives. He lives with his family on their hill farm in the Black Mountains at Pengenffordd near Talgarth.
