Frequently Asked Questions

Location and Times

  • The Conference is taking place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November 2024. There is also a Welcome Event planned for the evening of Friday 15th November.

  • All Conference activities are taking place at the Metropole Hotel & Spa, Temple Street, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5DY.

We would encourage you to consider travelling to Conference by public transport, using either the rail or TrawsCymru bus networks. We have prepared a Getting to Conference information page to help you plan.

  • If travelling to Llandrindod on the Friday why not arrive in time for the welcome event? The start time is yet to be confirmed but it's likely to be around 7pm.

The exact start time for the Conference on each day will be decided by the Conference Committee when it sets the final agenda. This is expected to be published around a month before the Conference.

As a guide, our recent Spring Conference in Cardiff started at 10am on the Saturday and slightly later, at 10:30am, on the Sunday.

We would advise you to arrive no more than half an hour before the Conference begins. If you arrive earlier we may ask you to wait in the hotel lobby area. You can of course arrive after the Conference has started if you prefer.

  • There will be stewards near the venue entrance to direct you towards the Conference area of the hotel.

When you first arrive please head to the Registration Desk. If you've already registered you can pick up your Conference Badge there. Otherwise you'll be able to register when you arrive. On the day registration for members costs £45 (£25 concessions). Please have the correct money ready as we may not be able to give change.

You will need to wear your Conference Badge while at the venue so please remember to bring it back with you if you leave at any point, including when you return on Sunday.

  • You can leave the Conference at any point (and return again) if you want to. Just remember to bring your Conference badge with you when you return.

We expect the Confernece to come to an end at 5pm on the Saturday, and at 3pm on the Sunday. This will be clarified when the Conference Agenda is published in mid-October.

  • If an issue arises before Conference, e.g. you are not able to attend due to illness, please email conference@libdems.wales.

If at Conference please go to the registration desk or find a member of staff or a steward.

Registration

  • Everyone attending the Conference has to register. Members can do so online or by downloading a registration form and posting it back. You can also register at the registration desk when you arrive on the day.

  • To ensure that everyone is able to attend Conference members are welcome to bring their children with them. However, please bear in mind that the Conference may not be the most interesting event for children.

There will be no childcare provided and all children will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • This is an option that the Conference Committee is looking at providing for future conferences, but it is not available for this Conference.

Some elements of the Conference will be recorded and shared on the party's social media channels.

  • The easiest way for party members to register is online. Alternatively you can downloa a paper form and returning it through the post. If you do so in advance then you'll benefit from a discounted registration fee and all you'll need to do when you arrive is pick up your Conference Badge from the registration desk.

If you prefer to register on the day then you can do so either online, using a payment card, or by completing a paper form and paying in cash or with a cheque. We're unable to take card payment on the day other than through the online registration portal.

  • The cost for party members to register is:

    • £25 (£12.30 for concessions) until Sunday 22nd September
    • £30 (£15 for concessions) until Sunday 20th October
    • £40 (£20 for concessions) until Sunday 10th November
    • £45 (£25 for concessions) from Monday 11th November, including registering "on the day".

There are no discounts for only attending a part of the Conference.

  • The concession rate is available to party members who are under 18, full-time students or on benefits.

  • The registration desk will be open from half an hour before the Conference starts until the last debate finishes on both Saturday and Sunday.

  • Registrations are non-refundable. However we do allow member registrations to be transfered to another member, and observer registrations to be transfered to another observer. Please email conference@libdems.wales to request a transfer.

Members of the General Public and those representing organisations are welcome to attend and observe the Conference.

  • The motions debated at the Conference are put forward by party members, with the Conference Committee deciding which will be debated.

Any member can write a motion. You will need to get at least 20 other Welsh party members or your local party to back your motion if you want to submit it to the Conference Committee.

Certain party organisations, such as the Welsh Young Liberals – our youth and student wing, can also submit motions to Conference.

The deadline for submitting motions is midday on Wednesday 2nd October 2024.

We have produced a guide to writing and submitting motions.

Venue

  • There will be no cloakroom facility for either coats or baggage. Large bags will not be allowed into the venue.
